The PDS Marsviewer desktop client is an image viewing tool tailored to Mars in situ missions. The tool makes it easy to view original images (EDRs) as well as all derived image products (RDRs), such as XYZ maps, slope, reachability, mosaics, etc., for MER, MSL, and Phoenix mission data.

PDS Image Atlas III
A search method with faceted navigation features which allows a user to asses and organized information according to a set of attributes, explore a collection of information by applying multiple filters using a system of classification that assigns an object to multiple taxonomies (set of attributes, i.e., PDS keywrds), enabling the classification to be ordered multiple ways, rather than in a single, predetermined, taxonomic order.

Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (Isis)
The Isis Workshop is a collection of tutorials designed to lead students from learning the basics to developing advanced skills in image processing with Isis. Many of the tutorials have interactive exercises where you can visualize what is being described, and some have links to data you can download and practice using in Isis 3. The focus of the software is to manipulate imagery collected by current and past NASA planetary missions sent to Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and other solar system bodies. The Isis Workshop includes collections for working with data from MRO HiRISE, MRO CTX, MGS MOC, and Viking Orbiter.

These products include images (including multi_spectrum images), tables (including those with bit columns and containers), cubes, and text documents. Images may be stretched, inverted, and displayed in a number of palettes: Greyscale, Red-Orange, Blue-Gray, Prism, Topo, Ramp, and Contour. Histograms are available for images and some cubes. Backplane data may be displayed for some cubes. Download available for PC, Linux and Solaris.

PIGWAD (USGS Planetary GIS Web Server)
A web-based, user-friendly interface for Mars, the Moon, Venus, Callisto, Europa, and Io aimed at the planetary research community that will support Geographic Information Systems (GIS) graphical, statistical, and spatial tools for analyses of planetary data, including the distribution of planetary GIS tutorials, tools, programs, and information; create planetary GIS databases consisting of peer-reviewed digital geologic maps, feature maps, topography, and remote-sensing data under the scientific oversight of the NASA Geologic Mapping Subcommittee (GEMS); and support and encourage the use of GIS in planetary research including geospatial open standards.

The Planetary Society

The author/source is Emily Lakdawalla of the Planetary Society. See Emily's Planetary Society Blog for a quick lesson on how to use the Planetary Image Atlas Getting to the real science image data: It's not that hard!.

SPICE Toolkit Software
Web Interface to locate and download 2001 Mars Odyssey SPICE files delivered to the PDS; allows users to access SPICE kernel files. The principal element of the Toolkit is a subroutine library, which the customer integrates into his/her application to read SPICE kernels and compute derived quantities.

VICAR
VICAR, which stands for Video Image Communication And Retrieval, is a general purpose image processing software system that has been developed since 1966 to digitally process multi-dimensional imaging data. VICAR was developed primarily to process images from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's unmanned planetary spacecraft. It is now used for a variety of other applications including biomedical image processing, cartography, earth resources, astronomy, and geological exploration. It is not only used by JPL but by several universities, NASA sites and other science/research institutions in the United States and Europe.

Clementine
CLEMDCMP/CLIMDISP (Clementine Image Decompression Software)
CLEMDCMP, an image decompression program, requires a Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and may take several minutes to decompress an image on hardware platforms with slow processors. For example, in tests on a Macintosh IIci, the decompression takes approximately 4 minutes. CLEMDCMP has been tested on hardware platforms with modern processors, such as an Intel 486DX2/66-Mhz, and the decompression takes just several seconds. CLIMDISP is an image display and processing program. It can be used to display Clementine uncompressed images and histograms but currently can not create GIF formatted files.
