| The Solar and Heliospheric Physics (SHP) program has as its objective the comprehensive study of all five solar and heliospheric research areas: | |

This program has four main research thrusts, nonflight Supporting Research, a Guest Investigator Program, Instrument and Technology Development that may be carried out in the laboratory and/or observatory, and payloads on balloons, sounding rockets, or as secondary, rocket-class payloads on flights of opportunity that is generically referred to as Low Cost Access to Space. These studies support NASA’s strategic goal to understand the Sun and its interaction with Earth and the Solar System. | |

Proposers to this program element are encouraged to read Appendix B.1 for an overview of the Heliophysics Research Program in the NASA Science Mission Directorate. | |
