MESSENGER: MASCS

August 17, 2016. An error was discovered in the photometric normalization section of the MASCS calibration pipeline. All photometrically corrected MASCS data in VIRS DDRs and VIRS DAPs through PDS Release 15 are a factor of 2 too high in value. This error will be corrected in Delivery 16. See MASCS_PHOTOMETRIC_ERROR.PDF in the DOCUMENT directory for information about the error and how to correct it manually.

May 6, 2016. MESSENGER Release 15 includes a complete redelivery of all calibrated and derived MASCS products covering the entire mission. See the ERRATA.TXT file in the top-level directory for details about this release.

MASCS is the Mercury Atmospheric and Surface Composition Spectrometer instrument on MESSENGER. The data sets are produced by the MASCS Science Team at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Maryland.

MASCS has two subsystems, UVVS (Ultraviolet and Visible Spectrometer) and VIRS (Visible and Infrared Spectrograph). UVVS data are archived by the PDS Atmospheres Node, and VIRS data are archived by the PDS Geosciences Node. Both data sets are stored on the same archive volume, available from both nodes.

MASCS Data Sets

Raw Data Products
UVVS and VIRS EDRs - MASCS Ultraviolet/Visible Spectrometer and Visible/Infrared Spectrograph Experiment Data Records
Derived Data Products
UVVS and VIRS CDRs and DDRs - MASCS Ultraviolet/Visible Spectrometer and Visible/Infrared Spectrograph Calibrated Data Records and Derived Data Records

Tools

Mercury Orbital Data Explorer - Provides search, display, and download  tools for this data set.
Mercury Footprint Coverage Explorer - Part of the Mercury ODE, this page links to product coverage maps in Google Earth and other formats.
MESSENGER QuickMap - This simple, interactive map interface used by the MESSENGER science team is now available to the public.
MASCS CDR and DDR Readers - The MASCS Team has provided IDL functions to read CDR and DDR data files into an IDL array of data structures.
